Research in Investigative Psychology often focusses on examining patterns in offender behaviour and cognition in order to apply these to our understanding of crime and thus aid the police in their investigative processes. The aim of this work is to understand (and at times attempt to predict) offender behaviours, thought processes, motivations or psychological characteristics.
Instructions :
Your task is to write a 1500-word research proposal for a study that examines the usefulness of using offender profiling to a police force. For this particular task, you can assume that you are working with a particular police force. You will need to consider how you will determine and measure the concept of usefulness. Note that you may focus on any type of offender profiling and you may choose to apply this to particular type of crime (e.g., theft/homicide/sexual crimes, etc.) or take a broader approach and consider the process in general. Your literature review must be consistent with the approach you take.

1) Overview of the Study – a brief abstract that summarises how it contributes to the literature in the field and how it will be carried out.

4) Proposed Methods – an overview of the methods you will be using, making reference to the design, participants, materials and procedure.
5) Ethical Considerations – You should provide an overview of potential ethical issues and how you will manage these.
6) References – a comprehensive reference list in APA format. (they don’t count in the final word count).
