You will be researching the federal government’s recent legislation to phase out gasoline engines for passenger vehicles by 2035. Your task is to write an argumentative technical report in support of, or opposition to, the legislation.

Your task is to write an argumentative technical report in support of, or opposition to, the federal government’s recent legislation to phase out gasoline engines in passenger vehicles by 2035. Your technical report must include:
• Title page
• Executive summary
• Table of contents
• In-text citations and References page using APA7 style
• Conclusion and recommendations
Your report may also include:
• Bulleted lists
• Appendices (for reference information)
• Images, graphs, charts
o If included, you also need to create a list of figures/tables
Since your paper is an argumentative technical report, you will need to research and present both sides of the argument. Here are some things you will need to research as a baseline:
• What does the federal legislation say? What are the exceptions in the legislation?
• How many gas vs electric vehicles are on the road right now in Canada?
• How many new cars are sold in Canada over the last 10 years?
• What is the environmental impact of eliminating gas-powered vehicles?
There are other areas of research you must conduct once you have chosen your angle. You must build your knowledge of the topic and research through internet searches and the DC OMNI library search tool. Look for credible sources of evidence to back your claims, and don’t forget to state your reasons why the evidence backs your claims.
Considerations and Angles
Since this legislation will be so impactful to all Canadians, it’s impossible to investigate the overall impact in the space constraints of 2000 – 4000 words. Therefore, you should focus your research efforts on considering your argument from a particular angle. Consider the following questions and pick an angle:
• What are the impacts on consumers and drivers?
• What are the impacts on automakers?
• What are the impacts of producing that many batteries (environmental and otherwise)?
• What are the infrastructure impacts on cities and private businesses?
• Who are the winners and losers of this legislation?
