Assignment Learning Objectives: Demonstrate how to establish and maintain relati

April 26, 2024

Assignment Learning Objectives:
Demonstrate how to establish and maintain relationships through the use of interpersonal communication.
Demonstrate how different facets of interpersonal/intercultural communication impact relationships in your life by writing a reflective essay over one or more relationships, and how improving communication might improve the relationship(s).
Recognize how to communicate within diverse environments
Relate the text’s explanations of intercultural communication and its unique contexts in the narrative reflection on interpersonal/intercultural relationships.
Instructions:
1. You can choose one intercultural/interpersonal relationship in your life, or you can choose up to three intercultural/interpersonal relationships in your life to discuss.
2. You need to choose at least 3 theories/concepts from the Interpersonal and/or the Intercultural Chapters from the textbook in order to explain certain interactions or aspects of this relationship or relationships. You will either have 3 theories for 1 relationship, or 1 theory each for the 3 relationships you choose.
3. Each theory or concept should be properly ascribed to its theorist (the person or people) who came up with the concept or theory), briefly paraphrase what that concept is about, and then apply it to the student’s own examples of how that theory or concept can be seen within their own life through a personal story about a relationship of their choice (be it in their jobs, their families, their romantic relationships, their choice of entertainment, and even their socio-political engagement). The student will also reflect upon their own communication and evaluate the encounters (what was good or bad?). The student should also reflect on how they think they might better their own communication practices for the benefit of the relationship.
4. The discussion of the communication interactions in this relationship/relationships doesn’t have to be super personal or in-depth if you don’t want it to be. Divulge what you feel comfortable divulging about the relationship, though I want you all to know that I’m the only one who will see these essays. Make sure you choose an appropriate theory if you don’t want to divulge too much.
5. The Essay should be written in a narrative style. This means that you are simply telling a story from a first-person perspective (using “I” and “me”, etc.). Explain aspects of that relationship, and how culture and personal values affect and shape how you and the others communicate with each other in those relationships.
6. There still needs to be an Introduction, Body, and Conclusion for the Essay. So, remember the organizing principles from the Public Speaking section of the course and try to organize the Essay using those principles.
7. These should be submitted as a document file or a Google Doc url in the assignment portal.
8.  The paper must be 2-3 full pages (the title page doesn’t count), typed in 12 pt. font, double-spaced,  and it must be formatted correctly using APA style for title page, in-text citations, and the Reference List.
9. There is a minimum of 3 credible sources cited on both the paper and the Reference List. Accomplish this by using the textbook, searching through the NCTC school library, the NCTC online library database, electronic media, interviews, and the internet.  Legibility (how clear and easy it is to read)  will be assessed as well as formatting (did the student use APA throughout?). For a better rundown of how to format an APA-style paper, click hereLinks to an external site.. Please note that you do not need an abstract after your title page for this particular paper.
