Students are expected to:
1. Highlight the nutrition-related problem that the plan is aimed at and its aetiology
(scientific reasoning) (20%). In this first part you are expected to give some
epidemiological data about the disease or risk factor the intervention aims at,
signposting why it is important to address and what is the impact it has at the
population, as well as its projected prevalence. Finally you should refer to the link
between the problem and diet, considering the ethical, political, legal, and social
issues involved or mediating this relationship. (400 words)
2. Describe, in detail, and critical discuss using an appropriate framework, the
procedure by which the plan is being implemented. (30%). You must choose and
justify if the methodology used was appropriate, whether there is a well-argued
policy design, who are the key actors in this intervention, what was its time schedule,
which stakeholders were involved? (600 words).
3. Analyse all the major information and communication channels and tools used by the
plan (20%) What kind of media were used, what were the key-messages, were they
clear, easy to understand, concise and informative? Please give examples and
possible alternative ideas (400 words)
4. Determine the ways with which the plan’s effectiveness is assessed (20%) Was there
an established, appropriate, evidence-based evaluation plan? Did the plan used any
external evaluators? How was its process and results measured? (400 words)
5. Determine the advantages and limitations of the presented plan, using the
appropriate references (10%). Did the plan work? Was it fit for purpose? Are there
any best practices emerging from it? What should be done next time to make it more
successful? Use this last part to conclude your essay. (200 words)
