Operating System Reflection
Imagine that you have been asked to be a part of a committee that your organization has formed for the purpose of recommending a new computer system and a new operating system (OS). Your organization is exceptionally large with offices that are located around the globe. Daily tasks rely on access to extensive databases. While the organization requires reliability, it does not involve real time capabilities, such as video. Your committee is reviewing the following systems:
Multiprocessor
Multicomputer
Distributed systems
After researching each type of system, choose one that you feel would be the best fit for your organization. Explain how the system works and how you feel it would satisfy the computing needs of the organization. Include any features you feel would be critical (i.e., synchronization, scheduling, etc.). Explain the benefits of the system, as well as any issues you foresee that might arise.
Then, choose two of the operating systems that we reviewed in this unit (i.e., UNIX, Linux, Android, or Windows 11). Compare and contrast them. Determine advantages and disadvantages of each system. Be sure to also cover the following:
Explain the basic structure of each system.
Describe how the systems handle processes, synchronization, and virtualization.
Using your findings, select an operating system that your community would like to select for the organization. Explain your decision.
Last, discuss how you can apply the concepts learned in this course to this scenario as well as your current or future career.
Your assignment must be at least two pages in length, not counting the reference page. You must use your textbook as well as one additional academic resource to support the rationale for this assignment. Adhere to APA Style when creating citations and references for this assignment.
