Answer each question/complete the tasks, and create a report for the case study.
Describe the signs and symptoms of shock.
Describe how cardiac output would respond to shock.
Describe how the following fluid volume regulating mechanisms would respond to shock:
Antidiuretic Hormone
Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System
How would peripheral resistance (vasoconstriction/vasodilation of blood vessels) respond to shock?
Make sure to describe in depth how each chosen mechanism works and provide examples of how the mechanism raises and lowers blood pressure. Be sure to explain how the nervous system and or hormones may play a role in the chosen mechanisms.
Your report must be a minimum of 300 words.
All answers should be in your own words and typed neatly using appropriate grammar, spelling, punctuation, and APA style.

Case Study
by Dr. Bruce Forciea.
Introduction
“She’s awake, Jane’s awake,” exclaimed Jane’s mother as her older brother Cliff and sister Rachelle gathered around the hospital bed.
Jane let out a long moan and then mumbled a barely audible “What happened?”
“Don’t try to speak,” said Cliff. Just rest for now. “You are going to be all right.”
Dr. Joel entered the room. “That’s great she’s awake. It was a bit touchy for a moment there, but I think she will improve quickly. She lost a lot of blood and went into shock.
Dr. Joel’s Report
Jane Doe reported to the ER at 1:04 PM with multiple injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident in which the motorcycle she was riding as a passenger was sideswiped by a car, which resulted in a collision with a chain-link fence. Her injuries included a severe laceration of the right lateral torso extending approximately 12 inches and running obliquely from posterior to anterior, closed head injury, no fractures reported on x-ray/CT, and closed comminuted fracture of the right fibula. Numerous contusions in multiple locations. The patient was unconscious and in shock.
