Assignment:You are a communications manager with the Children’s Hospital Colorad

April 28, 2024

Assignment:You are a communications manager with the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation and you are in charge of writing monthly patient stories for your organization’s website. Your senior manager asked you to contact the director of the inpatient rehabilitation service to ask for an uplifting patient story that demonstrates a family and provider having a mutually encouraging clinical experience.
When you contacted the physician who cared for the selected family, s/he was unable to meet and sent you a case study recently prepared for a medical journal to tell you what happened. Your assignment is to translate the technical language from the case study into a stirring story to promote your organization.
Objectives:By the end of this assignment students should be able to:
Translate technical language into a compelling story for a broad audience.
Appreciate the differences between provider and family experiences.
Directions:1. Read previously published patient stories from the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation website: https://www.supportchildrenscolorado.org/about/news/
2. Read the case study about “Tiffany Street” (the name you may use for this patient) and look up unknown terms utilizing the Harvard Medical School of Medical Dictionary of Health Terms: https://www.health.harvard.edu/a-through-c.
3. Remember that you work for the Children’s Hospital Foundation and that the goal of your organization is to fundraise on behalf of Children’s Hospital. Therefore, your audience will be families who received care at Children’s, potential donors who are looking to see if their values align with Children’s Hospital, and community members who are curious about the work taking place at the hospital.
Grading Criteria:
Assignments will be graded based on the following criteria:
1.Preparation/Organization—Does the story show evidence of thoughtful organization and attention to examples and tips for writing patient narratives? Was the story completed as assigned?
2. Story—Is the story compelling and interesting? Was technical language translated in a way that would make sense and interest the audience?
3. Style—Is the writing free of spelling and punctuation errors? Does the author avoid contractions, abbreviations, and improper grammar?
