As we are exploring Exodus, the introduction to the Hebrews’ departure from captivity in Egypt is explored in the first part of the Book. The early chapters show a tension between the Egyptians and Hebrews and have actions by Moses and Pharaoh that we want to explore in light of the broader context.

Crimes of Pharaoh and Moses.
Students, initial posts should make observations about Exodus 1 and 2 based on the questions below:
Historical World- (Author/setting)- What do you observe as the backdrop to this story? What assumptions are being made? What are the nature of the relationships described? What is happening within the culture?
Literary World- What images are created by the narrative as you read the story? What is the story telling? What’s the conflict? Why is this important?
Contemporary World- (Theirs) How are the participants in the story described, how do they describe themselves? How are the various people’s status’ described and used in the story?
What if any crimes are suggested by the story? What are the crimes, why is it a crime? How is it a crime in relation to the “three worlds of the text” – how are these crimes in their society based on the readings?
