As an overview, a strategic plan should contain the following elements:
The background and rationale for doing the plan
The process used to develop and adopt the plan…list the key people who will implement the plan
Key stakeholders and their needs and concerns
The organization’s mission and values
The environmental analysis
The organization’s analysis of strengths and weaknesses
The implementation plan.
Conduct a SWOT analysis. “SWOT” (pronounced swat) stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. This is a key part of strategic planning because it examines the organization itself and the external and future environment of the organization. Strengths and weaknesses refer to the organization itself-they are akin to assets and liabilities ( (Lynddon, 1999). They are current, that is, they exist now. Opportunities and threats exist outside the organization and/or they refer to the future.
As you think about the program that you would want to develop a strategic plan for, address the questions above and the following questions:
Conduct a SWOT Analysis of the program you developed a strategic plan for. Identify and explain each component.
What challenges do you think this program and the agency as a whole may be facing in order to stay vibrant, to remain aware of environmental changes, and to keep up with best practices in the field?
What leadership behaviors are needed to implement your program plan and face the potential challenges that may arise in the organization as a result of your plan?
Considering the characteristics of the program you have designed, what kind of leader would be best to manage the program?
What factors within this particular program, including the characteristics of staff, would give guidance as to the best leadership styles?
What specific leadership traits, competencies, and theories would be needed for an effective leader of this program?

what type of leader would you be within your organization?
