As a general guideline, your paper should include (at a minimum) the following information regarding your pathogen (note that this is not universal. Some of these may not apply to your disease, and there may be other important information relevant to your disease that isn’t included below):
General information – Morphological characteristics, type of catabolism, environmental conditions required for growth, and genetics/pathogenic mechanisms.
Disease history – Brief history, clinical signs and symptoms, virulence, progression of the disease state, identification/diagnostics.
Disease epidemiology – Individuals at risk, transmission mechanism(s), human behavior(s) involved in transmission.
Control/treatment – Methods of prevention, infection control, clinical treatment.
Summary and discussion – Overview of the above topics, your own thoughts
The paper must be typed using 12-point Calibri font, double spaced, and using one inch page margins. You must cite at least 5 recent (no older than 2000), peer reviewed articles. These should be from scientific publications. You should also use your text as an additional resource (in addition to the 5 resources above). A complete Literature Cited page must be included. You will also need to include numerical citations (which correspond to the citation list) within the body of the paper. (The style manual for this assignment is APA. The paper is worth 100 points and should be 6-8 typed pages (not including citations).
