Argumentative Frames Essay (Literature Review)
For this assignment, you will essentially be writing a literature review.
This semester, we have spoken/read at length about the way media coverage and public discourse shape public perception and influence policy (law/government). For your final research paper, you will choose a political or social issue that receives significant media coverage, and you will write an essay that makes an argumentative claim about the nature of that coverage and its relationship to public perception and policy. Right now, your focus should be on getting a good understanding of the existing research done on this topic so that you can get a full picture of the issue before forming a claim.
We have three more assignments in this class, sequenced like this:
Annotated Bibliography
Argumentative Frames Essay
Final Research Paper
Each assignment is designed to help prepare you for the following one, with a final goal of the research paper.
Your “argumentative frames” essay should have a tentative thesis statement or description of your paper topic. It should have a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. In the essay, you should give an overview of the existing research on your field. NOTE: unlike the Annotated Bibliography, the purpose of a literature review is not to summarize. Rather, you are aiming to synthesize the existing research, comment on its significance, identify areas of contention, and situate your perspective amongst it.
Your literature review should cite at least three peer-reviewed, academic articles and three credible, online sources. The sources you cite should predominantly be secondary sources rather than primary sources.
Length: 3 pages, MLA formatted, double-spaced
The topic of this essay will be, “The affect AI has on peoples jobs”
These are the articles you will be writing about.
