Appraise the research evidence and write a literature review for an assigned business/management practice. Practices should be assessed for support in peer-reviewed research literature by searching “Business Source Complete” an EBSCO database, through the UTA library.

This literature review will be approximately 6-8 pages double-spaced. Students will detail and critique the research literature and write a summary of the evidence. Guidelines for how to conduct a “Rapid Evidence Review” are here:

Actions
Steps for doing your search and writing your review:
1. Identify a management practice broadly defined. Try to find an issue of “real-world” practice that interests you. The practice MUST be business related. The purpose of the assignment is to critically appraise and summarize the peer-reviewed research on this management practice.
2. Search for peer-reviewed articles in “Business Source Complete”. Search for the topic using relevant search terms as either keywords (fewer results) or full-text (more results). Document the results of your search (see page 12 of the CEMBA document) and include a summary of the search “hits” as a table attached to your critical review.
3. Identify no more than 5 peer review papers on your topic. Give preference to (1) meta-analyses, (2) systematic reviews (3) papers with high citation counts (100’s or 1000’s) and (4) papers that appear in this list of high quality peer review journals. Give the complete citations for each of the papers included in your review attached as a reference list to your critical review.

4. Assess the research. You will assess each paper using the evidence-based pyramid and give an overall assessment of the quality of this work taken together (samples, methods, effect sizes etc). Note – this assignment is NOT a summary of each paper one by one.
5. Write an integrated critical review of 6-8 pages double-spaced. The the paper should include a summary of the research as a whole – see page 21 of the CEMBA document. DO NOT summarize each paper one by one. This paper should include:
a. Definitions. What are the key independent and dependent variables and how are they defined/measured?
b. Theory and causal mechanisms: What are they key relationships examined and theory used to explain causal mechanisms.
c. What are the main findings/take-aways?
d. Are there any important mediators or moderating conditions?
e. What are the samples or boundary conditions? Are there specific people/organizations where these findings are true/not true?
f. What is your overall assessment? Is this practice supported by research or not?
