Answer your research question by presenting data in the form of a video, podcast

April 30, 2024

Answer your research question by presenting data in the form of a video, podcast, storyboard, pamphlet, etc.
Regardless of form, be sure to include at least 5 sources (2 peer-reviewed sources you find yourself and 3 sources from the class that could be lectures, readings, and/or websites)
All cited sources should also be included in a bibliography
Alternatively, you can write a traditional essay:
Double Spaced
1-Inch Margins
SAA, APA, or MLA Format
Bibliographic references
5 sources (2 outside sources that are peer-reviewed, 3 class sources)
Instructions:
The final project is due by the end of our exam week by midnight. You can develop a creative presentation of your research (similar to the midterm project) or you can write a traditional essay (see the requirements above for each). The final draft must include the research question and thesis you developed, answer that question by addressing a topic we have discussed in class this semester, incorporate archaeological methods/evidence, and a relevant archaeological theory. You also must use 5 sources to support your arguments, either as case studies, supporting evidence, or theoretical approaches, etc. Two of these five sources must be the outside peer reviewed sources as outlined below, three of these sources must be from class material (at least one of these must be a book chapter and one must be a lecture), and additional sources you choose to add can be anything that supports or exemplifies your argument. However, if you use popular sources or primary sources, you need to use them appropriately (meaning they should not be used to argue an academic point but rather as an example or to illustrate a point made about a particular cultural phenomenon).
Your final essay should evidence your understanding of the type of material we covered and what you have learned throughout the class. You will synthesize class material from lectures, readings, and group discussions with the personal research you did where relevant to your research in this project. The purpose of this project is to show that you can pull from relevant material to build your own analysis. This is a short project, so you need to also practice being concise in your analysis. You will be evaluated on your ability to build an argument, your ability to develop and answer a research question, and your ability to successfully synthesize and apply course material.
Citations
Remember that you also need to include in-text/in-video/in-podcast citations for at least 3 class sources (these can be from the lectures and/or the assigned readings) and 2 outside sources that you find on your own. These sources must be academic peer-reviewed sources. You can find peer-reviewed sources by searching on the UHWO library website and checking the box for peer-review to ensure the results returned meet this requirement.
In-text citation is necessary when you are talking about facts or data that you did not know before you started your research, when you are paraphrasing another author’s writing, or when you are directly quoting someone else. Properly citing material also means including a bibliography with the necessary information about the publication. Proper citation is important because it is about giving credit where credit is due. Not properly citing another person’s work means claiming their ideas for your own which is plagiarism. You can use MLA, APA, Chicago, or any other citation style you are familiar with but make sure you are including the necessary information and are consistent.
