An infographic is a way to communicate information in a quick and easy way with a combination of images or graphics and few words.
Instructions
Select a topic related to infancy or toddlerhood. Some possible topics might be:
breastfeeding
vaccinations
circumcision
gender-neutral parenting
co-sleeping
child care
or any other topic that interests you
Do some background research, and then find at least two journal articles that provide more insight into that topic. You may also reference information from national organizations that focus on child development (American Academy of Pediatrics, UNICEF, etc.). You must use reliable sources and good science. Please note that YouTube videos, Wikipedia, Podcasts, and blogs will not be accepted as reliable sources.
Pick out some interesting information from your research and create an infographic with that information.
Your infographic must include
At least four facts about your topic in your own words. Please do not use any direct quotes.
A minimum of two images (pictures, charts, and graphs all count as images). Please make your graphics or charts easy to read.
Please note that using another infographic as a graphic or chart will not be accepted.
See the example below.
If the issue is a source of debate, you can present both sides on your infographic (for example, the pros and cons of circumcision or breastfeeding), or you can focus on one side.
Try to make it attractive looking.
Include your references in APA or MLA format either at the bottom of the visual or on a separate page.
If you need a refresher on paraphrasing or references, please watch this video to learn how to paraphrase and this video to learn about how to format APA references.
Formatting
You must use your own words – no copying/pasting or quotations are allowed.
Need help remembering how to paraphrase, use quotations, provide in-text citations or references? Please refer back to this page to rewatch the videos.
Don’t feel overwhelmed by creating an infographic. You can think of it as making a simplified “poster” about the topic. You may design the poster in any medium you desire, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Photoshop, or one of the following programs.
Canva is really easy to use and convenient because it has tons of free shapes and designs for you to use.
Venngage is a fabulous tool if you want to include a chart or graph in your infographic.
Visme is a free infographic tool.
Easel.ly has some great pre-designed Infographic options to work with.
Please do not pay for anything. If there is a paywall, let me know and you can submit a screen shot or photo of your creation.
