An improper sampling I deal with in my day-to-day life would be the Response Error Sampling which is when people/interviewees are giving false information. I work as a Security Officer in my local hospital and deal with mental health/overdose/aggressive/dementia/etc. patients daily. When an incident regarding a patient occurs, and Security is called as needed (patient is becoming aggressive, threatening staff, plotting to/attempted/had assaulted staff), we have to document a report which is saved into a database. (Who, what, when, where, why and how.) Sometimes, when we interview staff members, they can sometimes exaggerate or leave out certain details of crucial information such as what the patient was doing that led to the incident, what was staff interaction before and during the incident before we arrived, what has caused this to escalate, etc. Sometimes staff can mis-remember certain things due to the adrenaline of the situation which gives us false information on what exactly occurred and leads us to rewatch camera footage to ensure we have the full story. Other times, staff will misinform us on purpose or spread false information on the units, causing other staff members to believe the false info to be true (this usually tells us that STAFF did something, and the patient acted out in defense, rare, but happens). It tends to send us into multiple investigations to find the truth. These are just some examples, but the main Response Error is usually the exaggerating or spread of misinformation that’s now being regurgitated as the truth and we have to re-dig to get back to the original who, what, when, where, why and how, seeing how sometimes our reported documents go to court and needs to have as much truthful information as possible.
