An important step in the preparation for a human resources audit is the identification of criteria. In this assignment, you will identify a list of HR documents that help evaluate the use of best practices in a human resources department as well as develop a list of questions designed to evaluate the use of best practices.
Complete the following:
Submit the name of the college, university, or business in which you are employed. If you are not currently employed, select an HR department in a local college and submit its name. Grambling State University Human Resource Department
Submit the titles of four of the five components of the HR department, such as payroll or compensation and benefits.
Answer these questions: Are any of the HR functions contracted out? If so, which are they? Why do you think contractors are used for these functions?
Prepare a list of documents needed to audit the HR function.
Identify any necessary functions you believe are not present in the HR department.
Prepare a list of questions to determine if all the essential functions are operating effectively. Remember that these questions should be answered easily, preferably with a yes or no, so that you avoid time-consuming, global responses. Take small steps. Instead of asking open-ended questions such as how negligence in hiring is avoided, ask, “Do you check an applicant’s criminal conviction record? When? How? For which jobs? Do you check the criminal conviction records of current employees? How often?”
Prepare a list of documents you would review to help determine if all of the essential functions are operating effectively. These might include a copy of the application form, the exit interview form, collective bargaining agreements in effect, expense reimbursement form, and so on. Production of documents is much more efficient than asking, “Do you conduct exit interviews and if so, what do you ask?”
Within the text of your answers and at the end of your paper, in current APA style and format, list your sources used to evaluate the human resources department best practices.
