Background and Rationale
In this section (2-3 paragraphs) discuss the background and rationale for your project. You should explain the problem that your project seeks to address (think about the “so what?” question) and why it is important to the field of clinical nutrition. Be sure to provide evidence about the problem/topic from prior research. A good structure for this is 1 paragraph explaining the topic, 1 paragraph presenting evidence related to your study, 1 paragraph connecting the evidence to what you plan to do.
Purpose
Briefly (in one paragraph) explain what your project hopes to achieve (what you plan to do) in relation to the topic described in section II). Include your hypothesis empirical question and hypothesis here.

Explain the study procedures, in detail. Be as clear as possible about exactly what you will do from the start of the study to the end. Begin by describing the type of study. Then continue with the procedures for the intervention/survey/data collection as well as the duration of the study and timeline for completion. You may also want to include how the data will be collected, discuss the validity of any survey instruments being used, and any other related information. This should be 3-5 paragraphs. Conclude with a final paragraph about how you will keep the data safe and protect the privacy of your participants.
Variables
Explain the key variables (outcomes, predictors, controls) for your study and how they will measure the construct they are intended to measure. This may be a bulleted list of the variables.
