Aim:The aim of this assignment is to give you experience with perhaps the most importantaspect of writing – to persuade. In addition, paper 4 is designed to give you researchexperience (five outside sources are required) and as well as allow you to explore andanalyze a current controversial topic in some amount of detail.Assignment:You must complete BOTH Primer Worksheet #4 and Paper #4. In addition, you must alsocomplete the SCAVENGER HUNT activity (see additional handout).Before beginning this assignment I would highly recommend completing the PrimerWorksheet #4 (this worksheet is “practice” for Paper 4; however, even though it is“practice” it is required).Assignment: Pick one of the possible issues below and write a research based paper thatpersuades readers on some aspect of that particular issue. Most of the issues listed beloware typical “For or Against” issues, yet I don’t want to box you in too much (i.e., perhaps ifyou choose Globalization you will focus your speech not so much on the Globalizationissue but instead on whether or not NAFTA should be eliminated – an important aspect ofthe overall Globalization debate). On the other hand, however, feel free to design yourPersuasive paper around either being “For or Against” one of these hot button issues(indeed, that’s why I selected these particular issues). Finally, MLA format will berequired for this paper and non-correspondence to MLA format will result in one lettergrade drop on this assignment (severe non-correspondence may result in a two letter grade.
