After reading Ernest Hemingway’s “Soldier’s Home”, write on the prompt below (character analysis) and develop a three to five page response.
Incorporate two critical analyses or reactions(preferably found in the databases) as support for your assertions.
Character Analysis. Write a character analysis of the Krebs in “Soldier’s Home.” Consider the following as your write:
Is the character static or dynamic? How does this affect your interpretation?
Is the character round or flat? How does this affect your interpretation?
Is the character the protagonist or antagonist of the story? How does this affect your interpretation?
Do the character’s mannerisms and speech influence your interpretation?
How do the other characters, the setting, and even the point of view in which the story is told affect the reader’s reaction to the character?
Once again, you do not have to answer all of the questions I have posed in the prompts above, though they are guidelines for helping you get started writing on each of these literary elements.
Please note, I do not want a regurgitation of my notes, SparkNotes, or any of the critical sources you intend to use. A well-written essay about literature discussed the literary elements and uses appropriate critical material as support. Don’t rely on the critical material to carry your argument, and don’t just reword the notes I’ve provided for you. Dig into the story and provide your own interpretation.
Also, due to both of these stories’ characters, settings, and circumstances being dictated by social upheaval during the time in which they were written, some background or education on that time period may be necessary to help orient the reader and convince him or her of the importance of the argument you are making, as most should address the differences in expectation and societal pressures in the time period.
This paper should be approximately three to five pages plus end matter (i.e., works cited). Please compose your paper in MLA formatting and avoid the first person “I” and second person “you.”
A paper submitted without a proper works cited page, which includes both the primary and the secondary supporting texts, will receive an automatic F.
