- Go to ISLE activities on Schwartz Website
- Click “Chapter 8 Movement and Action”
- Click “ISLE Activities and Quizzes”
- Click “8.14. Optic Flow”
- Use the following stimulus settings:
- Speed at 0%, 25% 50%, 75%, 100%
- Click “Move”, observe for 30 seconds at each speed
- Click “Reverse Direction” for 30 seconds at each speed
- For example, set the speed at 0% first, then click “Move” while you observe the pattern of movement for 30 seconds. Next, keep the speed at 0% and click “Change Direction and Move” for 30 seconds. Make a note of what you perceive.
- Repeat this process for the other four speed settings (25-100%)
- Respond to the following three questions below:
- As one moves, nearby objects seem to move by quickly, but distant objects seem to move slowly as one approaches them. This pattern is called________________
- The distant point at which the gradient of flow approaches zero is called the ________point.
- What happens with your perception when you set the speed of motion to the maximum setting (100%), and why do you think that is?
