A hybrid identity is a product is an outcome of the fusion of two or more types of identity which is much more likely to occur within a complex global culture where there is a greater flow of ideas and greater movement of people. For instance, an individual may have an identity as a British person but also Muslim and Pakistani. Thus, their ethnic identity is a hybrid. Similarly, other than identity, many languages, fashion, foods, music, clothing are also a hybrid; a mixture from two or more cultures and countries. Moreover, sometimes people do not move a country or a place ever in their lives, yet they still are still exposed to and exist in hybrid environments by the virtue of existing or living in places where people from different countries, cultures, values and religions live with them. (I did not move, explain my essay in terms of a Muslim-emarati Arab girl living in the UAE, Dubai specifically) Dubai is a good example of such a place. When people, who are indigenous of such places, are exposed to hybridity, they adapt practices that are hybrid, for instance, eating hybrid foods, listening to hybrid music, learning new languages, and dressing in a way that is different from the generation before them.
After reading the material I have attached, write an essay about how you have a hybrid identity how you are exposed to hybridity while having never migrated. How being exposed to hybridity has made your life different from your previous generations, and what are the ways in which you are different from your parents. Do you feel you are living a life while being better exposed to diversity and are you more tolerant than your previous generations. Also discuss how, while being more hybrid, and diverse, how are you still preserving your unique identity through practices that involve celebrations or observation of certain traditions.
This essay is about your unique experiences. It has to be your memoir based on your life’s past, present and possibly the future that you predict for your generations. This essay will be written in the spirit of story-telling, and the story can start with your grand-parents or their grandparents as well.
