My topic: The importance of mental health awareness in schools
Problem: Mental health issues among students are on the rise, leading to higher levels of stress, anxiety, and depression.
Cause: The lack of education and awareness surrounding mental health in schools is contributing to the problem. Students often do not know how to recognize the signs of mental health issues or where to turn for help.
Solution: It is crucial for schools to implement programs and initiatives that promote mental health awareness, provide resources for students in need, and cultivate a supportive and understanding environment. By educating students about mental health, we can empower them to take care of their own well-being and seek help when necessary. This can ultimately lead to a healthier and more successful academic experience for students.
Purpose: To change the views of the target audience and /or evoke action.This must be in a problem – solution

A TYPED works cited must accompany the speech for grading; 5 points will be deducted if not submitted with the speech.

This speech will focus on the introduction, conclusion, body and citations of the speech and will act as the final for the course – show me what you have learned and how you have progressed throughout the semester.
Problem-Cause-Solution (aka Problem-Solution)
In this specific format, you discuss what a problem is, what you believe is causing the problem, and then what the solution should be to correct the problem.
Example: For the proposition of “today I am going to persuade you to donate blood.”
Demonstrate that there is a problem (shortages) – supported through research (pathos and logos)
Show how your donation helps (others need for medical reasons, surgeries, etc.) – supported through research (pathos and logos)
Explain how donating will help – supported through research (pathos and logos)
Provide works cited page. I need to see full source information for ALL verbal citations. Your speech should be laid out in the following way:
Introduction:
Attention-getter (use of imagery and description, 5 senses, set a scene/ scenario)
Credibility (this will be most likely research for this type of speech but you may also include any personal connections if applicable)
Proposition (aka preview of points) “today I am going to persuade (specific action)…”
Body of Speech (problem – solution organization):
For a speech of this length you will have 2-3 points to support your proposition.
MAKE SURE TO CITE ALL INFORMATION AND STATISTICS IN ORDER TO AVOID PLAGIARSM “ACCORDING TO [NAME OF ARTICLE OR JOURNAL]…”
· You will want to first begin with a definition of what you are talking about. This definition is best not from a dictionary but put in terms that make your topic more understandable (although you may need to get definition from a source and need to cite it). This definition may also tell us specifically what you will be discussing in the time frame permitted within the speech and, in doing so, will also tell what you will not be discussing.
· Point 1 (Make sure this directly supports your proposition) List at least one verbal citation as support (pathos / logos) (“according to [source information: author, title of journal or website, title of article (if applicable), and date of publication (for journals or books that cannot change) / last accessed date (for websites that can change).
· Point 2 (Make sure this directly supports your proposition) List at least one verbal citation as support (pathos / logos) (“according to [source information: author, title of journal or website, title of article (if applicable), and date of publication (for journals or books that cannot change) / last accessed date (for websites that can change).

· Right before the conclusion, you will want to tell us the SPECIFIC action that you want us to do. For example, if the proposition is “Today I am going to persuade you to stop eating fast food…” you can talk about beginning meal prep so that you won’t be tempted to stop at fast food, keep healthy snacks with you, etc.
