A 1500-word essay on a diplomatic case of your choice. It can be the same topic as the presentation (or another one, if you wish, but after contacting the Instructor). You are expected to present an essay not exceeding 1500 words. You should refer to the recommended books as well as demonstrate independent research by collating and analysing information from external sources such as journals/articles from the internet, and other relevant texts and materials. At the end of the essay, you should provide a detailed bibliography identifying sources and must also make use of in-text citation to reference source. The bibliography does not form part of the overall word count.
Marks will be given for:
Understanding of the main questions and issues involved by the research topic (LO 2 and 6).
Level and quality of the response to the question (critical analysis and reflection; LO 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6)
Level of the response to and engagement with the challenges posed by the question (research; LO 1 and 6).
Use and reference to the main and relevant theories in international relations and approaches to diplomacy (LO 1, 2, 4).
Use academic sources available on Bb (as well as other academic sources; at least 5/10 in total).
Provide an accurate and complete bibliography.
Reference correctly and consistently, using the Harvard system (https://www.librarydevelopment.group.shef.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.html).
Other forms of assessment will be considered for learners with Support
Agreements and requiring adjustments.
