– Background:
This project requires significant research about your subject. You will integrate your researched material into a 10-page essay that should contain a thesis or claim supported by research. The research should be an end in itself – it should be used to support your own thesis or claim about the literary works you have selected to discuss.
– Requirements:
A 10-page Research Essay with Works Cited that provides a substantive, argumentative thesis that makes sense of your research.
MLA 8th edition parenthetical citation format with a correct Works Cited page that lists all sources used in the essay in alphabetical order according to the MLA 8th edition format.
A minimum of seven (7) sources. All articles must come from peer-reviewed journals and at least half must be dated from 2000 or after. Books or contextual documents must come from academic sources.
– The Research Project will be evaluated on the following (but not exclusive) points:
strength of its thesis
quality and effectiveness of the argument
use and appropriate selection of supporting primary textual evidence (list of books and poems read included on syllabus)
use and appropriate selection of research materials
clarity, organization, and development of ideas
sentence structure and grammar
mechanics, including punctuation, spelling, etc.
accuracy of Works Cited page
