_This assignment aims to explore the evolving work environment over the past 20 years, taking into account the needs and expectations of Generation Z workers. By examining the changes that have occurred and considering the benefits of prioritizing employee welfare and satisfaction, we can gain insights into how organizations can adapt to attract and retain younger employees.
Imagine you are part of a team discussing the changing dynamics of the modern work environment. Your team comprises professionals from various industries, including technology, healthcare, finance, and marketing. Each member brings their unique perspective and experiences to the discussion. The team wants to delve into how the work environment has evolved over the years and understand the advantages of emphasizing employee welfare and satisfaction.
1. Based on your experience and the readings, what are the most significant work environment evolutions over the last 20 years and why?
2. Explain how the organization will benefit by focusing on employee welfare and satisfaction. Provide relevant examples with supporting evidence.
Over the past 20 years, there are a lot of evolution in working environment. Black, J.S. et al (2022) have listed many changes, derived from challenges of international competition, new technologies, increased quality, employee motivation and commitment, diverse workforce management, and ethical behaviour. Depending on our working environment and business core, we can decide which evolution is significant to our organization to analyze. For example, if a small family bookstore, already famous in town, decides no need to expand but aim to maintain the daily business, “employee motivation and commitment” could play important role over the time, to make sure their employees love their job, and can maintain the good service and quality of products to the buyers.
However, if a company is larger in size, and have a huge number of employees spreading around the world like Google (over 190,000 employees), “diverse workforce management” could play more important role in management than a small family bookstore in a town, like how to balance the salary between management in different countries; or how to prevent cultural differences at workplace.
If the organization’s business core is to expand and more competitive than its rivals, I believe “new technologies” would play a more important role to make sure you go further to achive more customers’ and effectively manage their employees
It varies between individuals’ staindpoint, the nature of the work is to provide a degree of economic self-sufficiency, social interchange, social status, self-esteem, and identity. Black, J.S. et al (2022). Employees has to involve in their job to have sensation of meaning in order to ensure the organization’s productivity and effectiveness
Without this, individuals often experience sensations of powerlessness, meaninglessness, and normlessness—a condition called alienation. In work, individuals have the possibility of finding some meaning in their day-to-day activities—if, of course, their work is sufficiently challenging. When employees are not involved in their jobs because the work is not challenging enough, they usually see no reason to apply themselves, which, of course, jeopardizes productivity and organizational effectiveness. Therefore, I do agree that organization should focus on employee’s welfare and satisfaction.
1. On any search engine, we can easily find top companies with different criteria for emoployyess happy, like: top companies with best work-life balance, top companies that treat employees best, companies with highest employees’ satisfaction. And not surprise, that those companies are all well known internationally and gain lots of success thourghout past years: Facebook
2. Netflix
3. HubSpot
4. BetterUp
5. Google
6. Amazon
7. Starbucks
8. Microsoft
