During the interview process, it is important to understand the patient’s history, current use of contraception use, desire to get pregnant, health issues, and relationship status. The history can reveal any chronic illnesses and familial medical issues. Current use of contraception, STI history and sexual activity can guide care of the patient. Knowing her goals in relation to her health are important when guiding her with health education (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).
This case study went into depth with multiple stages of the patient’s condition. WIth her final diagnosis, the clinical findings that would have been present are vaginal bleeding with clots possibly being seen, pelvic pain and cramping, the os could be opened with pelvic exam. With the use of ultrasound the fetus can be examined. You would find no fetal heart sound and no growth of the fetus (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).
The primary diagnosis would be inevitable abortion due the presence of dilated os. Secondary diagnosis would include; inclomplete abortion if all the fetal contents have not been expelled, complete abortion if all the contents have been expelled or septic abortion due to an infection in the cervix. With pregnancy the mothers immune system is lowered making them more susceptible to infection (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).
The management plan for this patient would include expectant management. This would include symptom management and watchful waiting. Educating the patient on what to look for in regards to excessive bleeding or infection and when to contact the office or emergency personnel (Hawkins, Roberto-Nicholas & Stanley-Haney, 2020).
