For this assignment you will compile an Annotated Bibliography (Links to an external site.) of the sources you are planning to use for your Research Paper. In your Annotated Bibliography you must include: complete bibliographic information in correct MLA citation format (Links to an external site.) for each entry, a concise description of each work you are including in your bibliography, a brief description of how each piece will contribute to your paper (how it pertains to your argument, the relevance of the piece to your subject, why this particular work is appropriate to include). Additionally, each entry should be uniformly formatted and presented in alphabetical order by the authors’ last name. For this assignment you will need to annotate 4-5 of the sources you will be using for your Research Paper. This should include at least 3 scholarly, peer-reviewed sources. Your paper must use 12-point Times New Roman font, have 1-inch margins, have page numbers starting on the second page, and be double spaced.

The author gives a brief history of how diamond engagement rings came into regular use. O’Brien shows that there is a significant financial background to the history of engagement rings. He also examines the changing meanings behind the giving of engagement rings. O’Brien concludes that engagement rings are no longer used as “virginity insurance,” and therefore have no meaning in modern relationships. This source presents historical information to ask questions not normally addressed regarding the symbolism of modern ritual. This source will be used to address counter arguments in this paper.
