Persuasive Shark Tank Pitch
The Assignment: This is a 7-8-minute persuasive speech.
You will create a persuasive sales pitch designed to earn the opportunity to propose your process, product, or service to a select group of investors. This sales pitch, called the shark tank pitch, is an oral presentation created to convince the investors that your business and/or product should receive a $1 million investment. You should have a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Sources are relevant (at least 4 sources are required). Your business and/or product should be something inventive and creative – do not copy an existing business. This speech will use a rhetorical model, Monroe’s Motivated Sequence (See guidelines in speech folder), to:
• Create a unique product idea (good, service, non-profit, etc.)
• Briefly explain your product, service, or process
• Persuade the investors that this product, service, or process is needed and beneficial to consumers/clientele
• Discuss how you will bring this product to market or industry
• Help investors imagine the impact your product, service, or process will have on users and investors
• Call on the investors to act on your proposal
Submission Required: Hardcopy full sentence outline (see template). Outline should be typed in APA format in 12-point font. Arial, Times New Roman, and Calibri are acceptable typefaces. All documents must be submitted into the provided drop box in Blackboard by the specified due date. Emailed submissions will not be accepted (no exceptions).
Grading Criteria: This speech is worth 20% of your final grade in this course. The speech evaluation form will be used to evaluate your work.
This speech will be primarily graded on:
• Having a clear topic (business, service and/or product)
• Visual Aid (PowerPoint, artifact, poster board, etc.)
• Full content outline
• Following Monroe’s Motivated Sequence organizational pattern
Important Notes about Speech Day: A full sentence outline will be required for submission before you begin speaking. You WILL NOT be allowed to speak without this outline in the drop box on the day before speech day. You may use index cards for your delivery outline, but do not have to submit them.
Everyone must be prepared on the first day the speech is scheduled. If you are not prepared when called on to speak, you will receive a zero for the assignment.
Speakers should dress in professional business attire on their presentation day.
