Describe how you would police or regulate the crime

June 24, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

The topic is Corporations and False Advertising
Prior to the due date of the paper, students must submit both an annotated references page and a comprehensive outline. Guidelines and examples of each are located in the assignment’s module of Canvas. The term paper must include a title page, abstract and references (APA format), must be a minimum of 1900 words (NOT including title page, abstract, or references) with the word count listed on the bottom of the paper. Papers that do not meet the minimum requirements will have points deducted. Papers must be double-spaced, use 12-point font (preferably Times New Roman), and have 1-inch margins. Papers must be saved as .doc or .docx and submitted electronically through Canvas, using TurnItIn (plagiarism detection software). Any other format cannot be evaluated by TurnItIn. A minimum of 5 sources will be required for the paper. Of these, students must reference at least 2 news articles (not Op-Eds) and 3 academic journals. While the paper only requires the use of 5 sources, the use of additional sources is encouraged. Generally, the more students read about a topic, the easier it will be to write the paper. Websites are NOT an acceptable source of information and Wikipedia may not be used under any circumstances.
Regarding your research papers: think about them more in the context of doing a literature review. You are NOT writing a research proposal (as if you are going to do a study) – rather, you will be reviewing the research which has ALREADY been done on your selected topic and report it in your paper. This also should NOT be just a long essay on a topic/fact – and, it should NOT be a lengthy reflection paper. You need to remove yourself from the paper. Write as if you are purely there to advance your concerns/arguments, convey prior research relating to those points. That is not to say your opinions do not belong; to the contrary, they are critical. However, language for the paper must be neutral and informative. A research paper should focus more on the evidence, how it relates to your arguments and conclusions, and where you think the issue(s) might be headed in the future. You MUST have a thesis (stance you are defending) and will need to show/use your analytical ability. Compare and contrast, make an argument, discuss cause and effect, etc.
All sources and references utilized in the reflective writing assignments and the term paper needs to be academically sound (i.e. books and peer reviewed journals/articles).
You may not use “Wikis” or other various search engines about sources (i.e. Wikipedia, Ask.com, Yahoo answers). When quoting or citing sources, you must meet five (5) minimum criteria:
Ensure that if a source is listed in the references page, it must appear in the body of the paper at the point where it is cited or used as a reference (you must do this each time the source is used).
Ensure that if a source is cited or used as a reference in the body of the paper, it must be listed on the references page.
All references/sources listed in the references page and cited in the body of the paper should use the same standardized format (APA).
All directly quoted materials must be contained within quotation marks followed by an in-text citation and a corresponding reference.
All paraphrased materials must be followed by an in-text citation and corresponding reference.
The paper should be structured as the following:
Instruction (no more than two paragraphs)
Introduce the concept of white-collar crime
Briefly, tell me why we need to focus on your topic of choice
What is the overall issue and harm of the crime that warrants attention? Are there victims? Etc.
Do not go into detail. That is for the main body sections.
Give a thesis statement indicating you are going to describe the crime, analyze the dangerousness, and explore how to police this crime.
Main Body
First point – Describe the crime
What are some examples?
Second point – Describe the dangerousness of the crime
Describe the victims and costs
Provide examples
If there are not example, elaborate on why you think there are no reports of victimization. This is where you must critically think and provide an opinion with evidence to back it up.
Third point – Describe how you would police or regulate the crime
Describe previous policing and regulations around your crime in general (e.g. environmental protection agency generally polices environmental crimes, but your topic is about the mass killing of fish).
Describe how you would specifically handle your topic of choice. What techniques or responses can be used to police and monitor the offenders of your topic of choice?
Conclusion
Sum up your paper.
