In addition to reading and writing, literacy skills also include listening and speaking. Secondary students are often not comfortable speaking in front of their peers. Describe an activity or strategy that could be used while teaching in your content area to help students gain confidence in public speaking. DQ 2:
Content area teachers outside of ELA are not technically responsible for teaching students the mechanics of writing, but they should still have high expectations of students’ written work. Consider the following; writing to learn is not learning to write. If your content area is ELA, what does this mean to you? How could you support teachers in other content areas? If your content area is not ELA what does this mean to you in your content area? How will you maintain high expectations of student writing while not making it the focus of the assignment?
