Besides studying DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), this class is also focused on Talent Management with the goal of situating DEI within that Talent Management framework. Certainly, students have to demonstrate a knowledge of DEI BUT also must be able to apply it to their understanding of Talent Management.
This week we are focusing student efforts on the field of organizational recruiting.
Students will address Recruiting (a part of Talent Management) from a diversity and inclusion point of view in this assignment.
Students will reflect upon and discuss the concept of how to improve the recruiting function of an organization by discussing in detail the following concepts as they pertain to the recruiting efforts of organizations:
What is the purpose of the recruiting function in an organization?
What is the purpose of a job description?
How does bias manifest itself in job descriptions if left unchecked? What impact can that have on recruiting for the best talent?
How does bias manifest itself in other aspects of the recruiting function such as resume review, hiring panels, and selection?
What are some steps organizations should follow to reduce unconscious bias in their recruiting efforts?
To help shape student expectations – I am looking to see you are developing an understanding of the recruiting aspect of talent management. If you are not familiar with how recruiting works, then the first step is for you to do INDEPENDENT RESEARCH about the field from sources of your choice. I have also provided you with several videos and articles about bias in recruiting (job descriptions, panels, interviews, biases, etc., and recommendations for fixing those issues).
Together, you should be able to formulate detailed answers to the elements above. Do not just give me a lot about DEI without fully demonstrating you are gaining knowledge around the organizational leadership component of talent management (which this week is situated in the recruiting function).
As always – be sure to cite your sources in APA style, 7th edition. PS – at this level, you should probably look to cite at least four sources or more to show me you are giving detailed thought and analysis and writing to inform the reader.
