Summaries for Reflection and Learning (100 pts.)
In an effort to promote learning and facilitate their journey through practicum, students will be required to submit 1-2 page summaries reflecting their practicum experiences. Some things that could be considered when writing your summaries: Are you connecting with the learning objectives? If so, explain. What was the best/worst thing that happened at my site and how did it make you feel? What complements/criticisms did you receive and how did you react to them? What kind of new skills have you learned since beginning to work at your practicum site? How do you think the people you work with treat you and how does it make you feel? What have you done thus far that makes you feel proud? What are you learning about yourself and/or the people with which you work? Summaries MUST be typed; no handwritten summaries will be accepted
The worst thing that happened to me on my practice site why is last week having two discharge a resident to her home however the resident lived in Illinois Missouri as she was staying here in St. Louis MO I could not find a home help company that would accept her insurance or that had adequate staff to go to her home in order to take care of her every company that I called which was 27 of them we’re short staff act assistant in addition to that I also had a hard time finding an equipment company that would deliver equipment to her home due to the distance that she lived I had never wrote an order two for equipment before I did not know how no one at the facility what help he told me that is part of my training was to figure things out it was extremely stressful and at one point I felt that I needed to quit however I pursuit I keep and kept calling and calling and calling until finally at the last minute I found a home care agency 15 minutes from her I also found an equipment company that her husband was able to rent the equipment that she needed in the long run I learn a very valuable lesson persistence is the key not letting other anyone get under my skin eight was a learning learning act for me I am happy to say this resident is now at home I follow up with a phone call at her husband stated that she was doing well and he was very appreciated for me because I stuck with it and without my help he would have had to do it on his own so that was a valuable lesson that I learned from my practicum site that was the worst experience of my life
