A workshop benefits everyone in that some folks are strong with sentence-level skills and others are good with themes etc.
Each person will write their paper on the story they select, as long as it is not one we have already read.
The point of a workshop is to help each other look at a paper with new eyes, and to help a peer see new avenues to address things they may not have thought about.
In essence, you will look at a portion of each group members’ papers, and help them with general writing ideas in relationship to what they are aiming for.
Your submissions will not be entire papers as I am asking for the first two pages, so each of your group members can see new things about the topic you chose to write.
I am posting this on the main page as it is a good question. Also, always know that it is best to trust yourself and to take risks in writing and thinking because that is how one really grows; therefore, if you do not think advice provided works for where you are heading in your paper, ignore it.
Please respond to the questions, and once your group members post–discuss each paper by answering the questions in at least two thoughtful and complete sentences, for each group member.
Here are the questions:
1. Is the last sentence of the introductory paragraph a thesis that reveals multiple elements about the story the author will discuss, and is it a strong thesis that is arguable and compelling? Why or why not?
2. Is the author of this paper using topic sentences relating to the thesis statement?
3. Is the author using analysis instead of summary?
4. What is the strongest part of the paper, please explain why.
5. What is the most general, ordinary, or obvious part of the paper, please explain why.
6. Is the evidence the author is providing complicated and unique or does it seem too general or are the connections too obvious?
