This class requires a formal research paper; below are the criteria for the paper.
ART History II Paper – museum visit paper
Do a virtual visit to the Philadelphia of Art Museum use the link to museum below and research a work of art that is currently on display by a well-known artist. I left this paper for that last in case you feel safe enough to visit the museum in person.
The artwork must be created during the time periods covered in this class ( Chapter 12-20 ).
Write a 4 page paper referencing the research you have completed on the artist and a piece of their art.
The paper should meet the following criteria:
In your paper include the title, date of completion, media, size, the name of the museum.
Include a picture of the artwork you writing
Discuss the artwork’s physical description and include information about the visual elements and design principles. What specific questions will your research try to answer? Elements of design are line, shape, form, space, color, and texture. Design principles are the balance, proportion, perspective, emphasis, movement, pattern, repetition, rhythm, variety, harmony, and unity noted in a piece of art. Once you have considered your thesis statement use the description of the art to make your point. Analyze and describe the work of art you have chosen.
4 pages double spaced using 12pt font
Cite your quotes and include a bibliography
Use a minimum of 3 reputable sources; at least one source must be from a journal or book. Wikipedia is not acceptable reference material (but you may use it to help you brainstorm)
Art History papers are often constructed so the topic sentences are at the end.
Choose an original idea; do not write your paper on the art works that are in class assignments. I am looking to see some creative thinking. Choose an artwork that you are curious about or want to learn more about.
