ARTICLE REVIEW: ERADICATION OF DISCRIMINATION ASSIGNMENT
INSTRUCTIONS

A mantra of modern society is to eradicate all forms of discrimination. However, virtually every
law or policy can be argued to discriminate against someone whose conduct falls within the
ambit of that law or policy. As a result, an important question is what kinds of discrimination are
impermissible. This assignment will require you to critically analyze claims that something
constitutes discrimination. In particular, you need to understand the issue both from the secular
point of view espoused by courts, legal tribunals, and legal professionals in our time and the
Christian worldview perspective. This assignment asks you to select a scholarly article
discussing an effort to eradicate discrimination and to evaluate it based on the criteria set forth
below.
It is critical that students seeking doctoral-level degrees be familiar with and able to interact with
scholarly literature and thought in areas of concern, as well as that the student be able to apply
theoretical thought to current events. Therefore, this assignment gives you the opportunity to
demonstrate your ability to analyze issues of law and policy as described above and to interact
with scholarly literature in the chosen area. This assignment will also strengthen your ability in
two areas: (1) to detect bias and worldview in news and information and (2) to strengthen your
ability to produce policy recommendations from the perspective of the Christian worldview.

For this article review, you will:
(1) choose an excellent scholarly article published in the last 5 years addressing
something asserted to constitute impermissible discrimination;
a. choose two news pieces published within the last year, or whitepaper
published within the last five years from an authoritative news or policy
source in the last five years, from a supporting and opposing viewpoint; both
viewpoints must be presented.
(2) carefully read and review the article and news pieces chosen.
(3) write a 1,500-2,000 word review of the article in good APA format:
(I) describing the article including:
(a) the topic or issue the article is addressing.
(b)how the news pieces relate to the topic of the article.
(c) the worldview of underlying assumptions that animate from the article
and news pieces and the analysis therein,
(d) any conclusions drawn or recommendations made in the article and
news pieces.
(e) any other information you deem important to understanding the article
and topic.
(II) critiquing and assessing the scholarly article’s analysis, conclusions, and/or
recommendations with one supporting news article and one opposing news article.
(III)Analyzing the topic from the perspective of the Christian worldview.

This article review should be between 1,500–2,000 words, excluding the cover page and the
reference list.
words. You must stay within the required word range (no exceptions; indeed, a critical part of
scholarly writing is synthesizing and summarizing important information and omitting
information that is not material).
You do not need to include an abstract, but you
do need to include a cover page and a reference list.
In this article review, you must cite as well as utilize at least 6 sources that are scholarly (one of
which must be the article chosen for review), legal (such as piece of legislation, court case, or
law review) and current news, in addition to the course textbook and the Bible, for a minimum of
6 sources. Any of the sources provided in the course materials or cited in the course materials
should be preferred to the extent that they are relevant to the assignment. Please note, this is not
requiring a minimum of 6 citations but rather 6 sources. You should have numerous citations
throughout each Article Review as every major assertion should be supported by a citation to
relevant authority.
