NUR 301 Module Four Project Preparation Guidelines and Rubric

Overview

Nurses must have an understanding of healthcare issues that directly impact their nursing practice. To do this, they must identify healthcare issues that impact them. Then, they must investigate how the issues connect to larger concerns. Finally, as they investigate, they must examine potential solutions to the issues.

The nursing shortage is a significant healthcare problem that has impacted, and is impacted by, many other healthcare issues. As frontline healthcare providers, nurses are directly impacted by these issues in many ways. There are a variety of healthcare issues connected to the nursing shortage, such as burnout, workplace violence, lack of nursing faculty, and more. When nurses identify issues that directly affect their nursing practice, there is often a desire to have a better understanding of the issues from all directions. This project preparation provides an opportunity to start the exploration of the many aspects of nursing practice issues.

This project preparation will help you with Project Two, where you will be required to describe a contributing issue that directly impacts the nursing shortage.

Directions

In this project preparation, you will select the contributing healthcare issue you will research for Project Two. Using the Module Four Project Preparation Template in the What to Submit section, create an outline that describes the contributing healthcare issue that impacts the nursing shortage and nursing practice. The following are examples of contributing issues to nursing shortages.

  • Workplace violence (or lateral violence, physical violence)
  • Nurse burnout
  • Nurse substance abuse (or diversion)
  • Nurse suicide
  • Work-life imbalance
  • Resilience gap or deficit
  • Lack of diversity (race, culture, or gender) in nursing (e.g., in leadership positions or board membership)
  • Moral distress or injury
  • Access to nursing education

Include at least three scholarly, current (within the last five years) sources to support this project preparation.

Specifically, you must address the following rubric criteria:

  1. Contributing Healthcare Issue: Explain a contributing healthcare issue that affects the nursing shortage and nursing practice.
  2. Impact: Summarize the impact that the healthcare issue has on the nursing shortage and nursing practice.
  3. Solution: Describe an evidence-based potential solution to the healthcare issue.

What to Submit

Using the Module Four Project Preparation Template, create an outline to submit for grading. Follow APA style standards for formatting and citing your sources.
