Writing Assignments
Each student will submit (4) written assignments during the course of the trimester. Each of these writing assignments will empower the student to engage various areas of abnormal psychology and demonstrate their understanding of relevant topics through their writing. APA format (7th edition) is required for each of these papers (specifically- Double-spaced, 1” margins, title page in APA, works cited in APA, and page numbers in APA). Students are required to use quality academic sources. Specifically, the use of online websites as sources will be penalized. Since this course is a 400 level course students are expected to demonstrate proficiency in their writing (i.e. grammar, format, and content). Students are required to submit the assignments through Canvas. Canvas is set to only receive papers written in Microsoft word format. The nature of the assignments are as follows:
Writing Assignment # 4-
Students will write a research paper that focuses on a psychological disorder that is included in the DSM 5. Students are free to choose any disorder that they prefer to research. The paper should discuss the following areas: defining of the disorder, symptoms of the disorder, characteristics/symptoms of the disorder, demographics of who is commonly diagnosed, beliefs about etiology (causes), prevalence of the disorder, and suggested treatment for the disorder. This research paper will be a minimum of 5 full pages (NOT counting title page or works cited) and contain at least (4) cited, scholarly sources. Papers in which the body of the paper is less than 5 full pages will have 10 points taken off. The textbook and the DSM 5 can be used as two sources. This assignment is due the week of July 8th -July 14th (Week 8)
