Please write and submit a short essay about a specific experience you have had with a brand.
You should think broadly about what constitutes an influential brand in your personal experience. The brands we encounter in our daily lives are typically associated with commercial products and services, but not necessarily. They can be expressed by artists, advocacy organizations, and political campaigns. Brands can be expressed by very large enterprises, and by very small ones. They can be almost invisible, influencing very small choices we make in our daily lives. And they can be unavoidable, saturating our lives through their public presence in media, and in the channels of commerce that help us function in modern life.
For a top score, your post should narrate a story about your brand experience. Reflect carefully on your brand to work up a good topic. When has a brand fulfilled your expectations? When has it fallen short? How did you come to have a relationship with this brand? How does it shape decisions you make about how you spend your time, or your money? When has a brand moved you to action?
Students occasionally use this assignment to litigate a gripe about poor customer service delivered by a brand. For the purpose of this assignment, think bigger. We are more interested in what a brand means and how it communicates, and less interested in its day-to-day successes or failures.
