Question 1) Communication in the workplace: With the ups and downs over the past several years, there has been an increased need for clear communication. For example, there have been many articles recently including Elon Musk sending direct and fiery emails out to staff members demanding top-notch performance, etc. Some people say that it’s important to use Radical Candor when dealing with other people at work. Others feel there needs to be an increased level of sensitivity. If your opinion what is the right approach to drive results and why?
Question 2) Talent Acquisition: There are many possible ways to attract the best talent to work for a company. One is to hire recruiters to recruit people from other roles at other companies. Other ways are internal employee referrals. There are also many job postings that people apply for after researching a position. Explain what you think is the most efficient best practice to recruit top talent.
Question 3) Business Structure: There has been a lot of talk on the Gig Economy and how it allows people to work in a more flexible format while juggling multiple priorities. The other school of thought is to only hire full-time employees with strict practices around not hiring gig or contract workers. What do you see as the advantages and disadvantages of each approach? What would be in your opinion as more profitable and productive over the long term?
Question 4: Leadership Structures: Describe 3 different leadership structures. Explain the differences in the models and in which ways they fit differently for different types of organizations.
Question 5: Politics and Business: If you read the business news over the past year there have been many complaints about businesses and key executives as being too political. You may have heard stories of the “My Pillow Guy” as well as other business CEOs as being considered leftward leaning (Mark Zuckerberg) and fixing elections etc. One term being coined is the “Woke CEO” among other things. What do you feel is the role of a business and its CEO in politics? Do they have a place and why?
