This week we will look at the perspective of nursing advocacy groups. Nursing advocacy organizations are often a great way to get involved in advocating for nursing policy. Many of these organizations do the ″legwork″ for you and provide a guide for what policies are being proposed, what policies should be proposed, and how policies that affect nurses are being implemented across the country.
Assignment:
(1) Choose an organization that advocates for nursing policy in some way. Here is a list of some of these organizations:

(2) Navigate to the organization′s policy and advocacy page on their website and choose one (1) policy that this organization advocates for and answer the following questions:
(A) Summarize the policy.
(B) Is the policy a federal, state, or local policy (or a combination)? If the policy has already been written as a bill, make sure to mention the bill number.
(C) Based on your answer to (B), who would you speak to about this bill? *Note- this is a hypothetical but it needs to be an actual elected official; You will not actually reach out to this person.
(D) Based on your answer to (C), would you expect this individual be for/against this bill? Justify your answer by referencing their previous votes, sponsored legislation, or things they have stated in the past on similar issues. Again, you can′t know for sure. This is just an exercise is knowing your audience.
(E) On two (2) other students post, find an organization that opposes the policy they posted. For this, think of common opponents of nursing policy. If the policy affects a certain population, also consider groups that represent or advocate for that population as well.
