Here is a Difference Between a Fixed Mindset and a Growth Mindset:
A fixed mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence are static and unchangeable. People with a fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges, give up easily, and feel threatened by the success of others because they believe their capabilities are set in stone (Yeager & Dweck, 2020).
A growth mindset is the belief that abilities and intelligence can be developed through dedication, effort, and learning. Individuals with a growth mindset love challenges, continue through obstacles, and view effort as a path to mastery. Some people see failures as opportunities to grow and learn (Yeager & Dweck, 2020).
Fixed Mindset Statement:
I choose  “I do not have enough brains to get through statistics.” This is an example of a fixed mindset because it assumes that my cognitive abilities are fixed and that no amount of effort or learning can change my performance in statistics.
Changing to a Growth Mindset:
For me to change this belief to reflect a growth mindset, I could reframe it as: “While statistics may be challenging, I can improve my understanding with effort, practice, and the right resources.” This new statement emphasizes the potential for growth and improvement through dedication and learning (Boaler, 2019).
Biblical Encouragement for a Growth Mindset:
One verse that addresses anxiety and growth is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This verse encourages a growth mindset by reminding me that, with faith and the strength that comes from Christ, I have the capability to overcome challenges and growth. When I face difficulties in my statistics class, I can draw strength from this verse, knowing that my efforts, combined with divine support, can lead to success and personal growth. This perspective helps reduce anxiety and fosters a belief in my potential to learn and improve

The difference between growth and fixed mindset
An accurate way of describing the difference between growth and fixed mindsets is comparing how they view failure. Fixed mindsets accept failure as permanent and that failure may be inevitable because talent is fixed (Spencer, 2017). Growth mindsets accept failure as a chance to learn and improve upon your method of completion (Spencer, 2017). Growth mindsets accept challenge and view obstacles as a chance to experience and improve (Spencer, 2017).
State that reflects my mindset
I have picked statement 3. It is a fixed mindset because Spencer describes a person with a fixed mindset someone who may, “view critical feedback as a personal attack (Spencer, 2017). When someone, such as I, has a hard time not taking feedback as an attack, it seems like criticism. Unfortunately, the potential consequences of this mindset can be the individual who needs assistance not reaching out for clarification or extra instruction, leading to the skill never being developed.
How to turn this into a growth mindset
The way to fix this and turn it into a growth mindset is to work on developing the skill of recognizing the differences between personal attack and assistance. I would never expect a professional to attack my intelligence or treat me as if a topic is easy just because they either enjoy it or are the expert. They became a teacher for a reason and have my best intentions in mind. They are giving me an opportunity to learn new methods to increase my understanding, or “develop new systems” as referenced by the video (Spencer, 2017).
Verses to turn this into a growth mindset
In the book of Philippians, Paul writes to the individuals who supported him during a tough time. While that time was more than likely during incarceration, the verse reflects this class and our work with each other and the teacher. Philippians 4:13-14 says, “I able to do all things through him who strengthens me. Still, you did well by partnering with me in my hardship” (Philippians 4). God would not have given us a challenge that we weren’t incapable of at least trying and doing our best to learn and grow from. And, we have our professor to help guide us through and support us in times of need and extra help.

Drug and alcohol abuse among youth is a serious issue with potentially long-term damaging effects mentally, physically, and spiritually. Alcohol is a widely used solvent in industries where it is denatured by adding a toxin to make it unpalatable. (Wormer & Davis, 2018) On the other hand, drugs are substances that can act as a stimulant or narcotic taken outside of medical supervision. The abuse of drugs and alcohol is an unwelcoming issue that poses a serious threat to the health and well-being of youth across the globe. This can have a major impact on a young person’s physical health. Youths who engage in substance abuse are exposing themselves to many health risks that can have long-term effects on growth development and possibly overall quality of life. This can lead to a range of health problems, from live diseases, cardiovascular issues, and respiratory problems.
The highest level of alcohol and drug use in the United States is among 21-years old it is also the leading cause of death among youth and unintentional injuries, such as vehicle accidents, drownings, suicides, and homicides. The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, 2010. (CDC) Substance abuse can worsen mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and mood disorders it can even lead to social isolation, family problems as well as broken homes due to this addiction. To secure a healthy, future for our youth, it is important to agree on strategies that prevent the harmful effects of drug and alcohol use. The foundation strategies is complete education, which equips young individuals with the knowledge about the dangers and consequences of drug abuse.
The Bible of moral and ethical teachings tells us how we should live our lives and make decisions that honor God. Ephesians 5:18, we are warned against reckless behavior that ultimately separates us from God. We should listen to our youth when it comes to their experiences and struggles without judgement. God wants us to guide our youth and encourage them to make good and wise decisions even is we have to hold their hand and walk this journey with them.

Teenagers are a fickle bunch.  They are like birds that flit around from one branch to another, seemingly oblivious but will take off at the slightest intrusion.  If I were to address the group, I would first provide comparative stories and points that would be relatable such as our bodies being temples to the Holy Spirit.  I would speak on how we are here and given life and free will but are called to honor God with our bodies and minds and we need to take care of them.  I may go into some information on how drug and alcohol abuse destroys our body, which is a gift from God.  I would also speak about the importance of standing up for your beliefs and not falling prey to peer pressure.  I would go over Proverbs 13:20  which emphasizes the importance of choosing good friends because they can and will be an influence in the decisions you make and the behaviors you choose.  I would encourage them to find positive peers within the church and youth group to support each other and hold each other accountable if dangerous decisions are being made such as the use of illicit substances.  I would then go over facts about how drug and alcohol use can affect them physically, mentally, and emotionally. It would be important to engage the youth group in providing service to their community and have them come up with their own outreach projects to allow for ownership and feeling like they are making a difference to support other people who may be struggling with substance use.  Lastly, I would be the role model they need to see as their youth pastor.  I would live life as a Christian.  I would show each and every one genuine care and concern for their overall well-being and be someone they can trust to come to with any problems or struggles they are having.
