As you write your Q-C-Q for each Reading/Resource, you can think about the following areas of focus, as well as any other aspects of the Readings/Resources that stand out to you:
Because of its roots in holiness/sanctification movements, it can seem that the controversies surrounding the rise and fall of Pentecostals are “baked in the cake.” The story of redemption is part of the testimony of Pentecostals, who are lost and then found, captive then delivered from sin, unholy and then sanctified.
How do the stories of Sister Aimee, the women of COGIC, and Tammy Faye Bakker fit into this pattern?
How did these women leverage their redemption stories/sanctification testimonies to gain pardon-and even power?
How do their stories fit into the larger patterns observed by Wacker regarding women and also boundaries in Pentecostalism?
The stories of the controversies surrounding Marjoe Gortner, Carlton Pearson, and Jay Bakker raise questions for Pentecostal/charismatic Christianity:
What do you do when the tried-and-true testimonial pattern is disrupted by an unrepentant heretic? What if the sinner doesn’t see the need for redemption? What if the lost don’t think they are lost at all?
Summarize Wacker’s exploration of the energetic contentiousness of Pentecostals where boundaries are concerned. What boundaries did Gortner, Pearson, and Bakker cross? Why are they beyond redemption? Or are they?
Remember: The Quote-Comment-Question assignment has three simple steps. Begin reading/watching/listening to the class Reading/Resources and when you find/hear a quotation that feels important to you, pause your process and:
1. Jot down (or cut and paste) the exact quotation and label it Quotation.
2. Take a moment to comment on why it seems important to you and write a phrase or sentence or two in an area labeled Comment. Consider one of the following:

3. Then move straight away to the Question section :
Is there something here you do not understand (words, ideas, etc.)?

Does the quotation make you question any ideas or assumptions?
Then continue reading/viewing/listening to the article, stopping to add to the worksheet other Quotations, Comments and Questions.
When you are finished you will have a record of the most important quotations to you and your thoughts on them. These will help you engage the readings/resources and prove valuable as a resource for the Mid-Term and Final Assessments.
