The Term Paper should exam the influences, effects and outcomes of a vaccine, an antimicrobial or a disease caused by a microorganism. The paper must incorporate research, data and information from the CDC, WHO, and literary sources. A minimum of five credible references must be utilized in the paper. Each student must research and report on a different vaccine, antimicrobial or disease.
This assignment is 5-7 pages. Papers less than 5 pages will receive a lower grade.
Language:
Use complete sentences.
Use short sentences and be concise.
Assure that subject and verb conjugation are appropriate.
Avoid separation between pronouns and their antecedents. Otherwise, don’t use pronouns.
Do not use any abbreviations until you have clarified what they mean. For example: Ribonucleic acid (RNA)
Do not use words you do not understand. At this level I think it is preferable if you need to look up the word to use it, include a short explanation of the meaning of the word in parentheses. For example: diaphoresis (excessive sweating)
Italicize genus and species names. Genus name should be capitalized. Species name should be lower case. For example: Homo sapiens.
Use bolded headings to organize your paper. Organization is part of the grade. This will help you, the writer, to be more organized and it will make grading easier. Some possible headings are listed below. You do not need to use all of them and you can combine them:
Abstract/Introduction – make clear what the paper is going to convey
Historical background
Clinical Manifestation
Transmission
Diagnosis
Prevention
Treatment
Ongoing Research
Conclusion
Please reference in the text anything that you looked up to write your paper. That means you should probably have a reference for every paragraph. Reference factual details. The reference in the text should look like (author, year) or (Klein, 2024) Clearly indicate what is a quotation and what is your own writing. All figures require a caption and a reference.
Content: Writing styles change and vary. For this type of informational writing I suggest a style that is concise. Avoid dwelling on things that would be obvious to most readers. For example: How important it is that governments, communities, and research institutions provide sufficient resources to prevent and combat the devastating xyz disease in order to avoid the economic and social … This kind of verbiage is called boilerplate. Boilerplate is defined as “writing that has been used before many times with only very small changes” (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/boilerplate) Try to find something interesting or unusual to write about.
The paper must be typed with 1” margins, double spacing and a 12-point Times Roman font. The paper should also include a reference list. The American Psychological Association format must also be utilized for the paper. The paper should be between five and seven pages in length (not including cover page, abstract, references, exhibits, etc.). The paper must be submitted through Canvas in order for the paper to be uploaded to Turnitin®.
