In the school setting, social workers have to write IEP goals for students who are receiving special education services, and have social work minutes. A large part of the goal is that it must be measurable in some way. Each goal has to have 2 or 3 objectives. The objectives reflect how the overall goal will be achieved. You will also be required to write the student’s Present Level of Performance. This means what the student is actually doing in the school setting. You will also determine the criteria the objectives will be performed. Since we are dealing with special education students, we have to be realistic to the frequency of them performing the objective, especially in the beginning. The next drop box you will choose from would be the procedure. Typically you would select one because this will be how you measure the objective for when progress notes are updated quarterly. The final drop box would be the schedule for collecting the data. It’s much easier to do weekly data collection because of the high caseloads social workers typically have. Below is an example of what the IEP goal page looks like.
You can use the link in red to see examples of different goals and supporting objectives for this assignment.

Present Level of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance
Student is very friendly and outgoing. He has a lot of energy, and it can be difficult for him to sit for extended periods of time. In group sessions, he has to frequently move about the room. Some of this is seen as anxiety and nervousness, as though he’s not quite sure what to do with himself. He tries to maintain control, but it can be difficult. He is helpful to the other group members, and tries to give them advice. He struggles with issues outside of school, which sometimes makes it difficult for him to stay focused in class.

Now, I want you to read the following scenario and try to develop an IEP goal that is measurable, and that also includes objectives for the student. Upload the assignment in Microsoft Word format. It doesn’t have to be a long response. Follow the guide that I have given you above, but be creative, and practice as if you were a school social worker.
The student is a 15 year old male who has angry outbursts in class almost every day at some point during school. He walks out of class frequently and when he is angry, he tends to punch things or destroy property. His teachers are asking the school social worker for assistance as they want to be able to teach the student what is required, but his anger issues are disruptive to his learning, and that of his classmates. The student’s parents also do not know how to help their son and are hopeful that you can help them
