**Dear students–part of being in college in looking up or briefly researching things you come across in your reading that you have no background knowledge of and so they carry no meaning for you. In these cases DO A LITTLE RESEARCH when you come across these references (which are many in this book) so that you broaden your understanding of the world and world events. I do not expect you to know about these events in advance, but DO expect you to care enough to look them up and learn about them.
In a deeply reflective and analytical paper of no fewer than 2.5 pages (double spaced) show evidence of close reading and deep thinking about the two chapters on WATER(CH3) and FOOD(CH4), which along with breathable air are at the very top of our physiological needs. As our physical planet changes (e.g., my sister just sent me video of her watching a glacier calving in Alaska) societies and governments are in some cases proactively changing and in others reacting…often too slowly or too late. As I write this there is both flooding and drought as well as famine and plenty in different places–some even in close proximity to their opposite extreme.
Write at least one + page on 1) what you learned from each of these chapters and 2) what relevance to your own life the reading had–or what it allowed you to reflect upon in terms of your own experience (past, present and future).

INFORMATION ABOUT ME: I was borned and raised in Indonesia and moved to LA four years ago to pursue my education. I am currently here in Los Angeles this summer to finish my last 2 courses in LMU. I am a Information Systems and Business Analytics major and work for the LMU’s ITS Classroom Support. A work experience that I had was working as a supply chain analyst for a hair care company which I did for my capstone project. As for pets, I recently adopted a cat here in LA, her name is Umma. I do have 2 dogs too but both of them are back home in Indonesia. DJing and tennis is what I usually do on my free time (recently started playing golf too). Also, I love snowboarding. One personal goal that I have is to improve my english and public speaking skills. I do not have any specific career plans but I’m hoping to get a few years of work experience here in the US before I return home.
