Guidance
This
information aims to guide you through the content and development of your
project for the summative assessment of the module. Please read carefully
before completing and submitting your assignment.
Structure:
The assessment falls into three
main parts:
A.
The research question
and search strategy (500-1000 words)
B.
Critical appraisal of
literature and the evidence you have found. (4000 words)
C.
Provide a plan of how you might use this knowledge
to inform future practice and Continual Professional Development. (1000-1500
words)
These three parts are
broken down into the different elements you are expected to discuss in
your assignment.
Part A: The research question, and search strategy:
This part should explain your topic
of interest, how it relates to social work practice, your search strategy, and
your specific research question. When explaining how it relates to social work,
you should include a brief paragraph demonstrating the importance of
your selected topic through the use of literature and supporting references.
This information should serve as a justification for why you have chosen
your research question. In the process of discussing your search strategy, briefly
state which databases you have used and why. As a minimum, you should
use at least 3 databases.
Ø Part B: Critical appraisal of literature and the
evidence.
Ø Begin this section by explaining what you mean by research evidence
and conveying an understanding of different types and levels of evidence.
Ø Following
this – Whilst focusing at all times on
your specific research question; conduct a literature review to find the
best research evidence. In the process of looking at research evidence critically appraise at least
one Journal Article you have identified, from your database searches.
Ø Continue to draw on literature to find and present
the other main types of evidence that a social worker should ideally
draw on including theory, law, policy and serious case reviews, service user
and carer perspectives, values, own practice experience, and other professional
perspectives. In doing so you should continue to critically appraise the
quality of all evidence you have chosen throughout.
Ø
Part C: Based on your critical appraisal in Part B; summarise what have you identified as the best
evidence to inform practice in the specific practice area chosen. Provide a plan of how you might use
this knowledge to inform future practice in your chosen area and Continual
Professional Development.
Ø Avoid making a bland
summary or list of recommendations. The writing tone should be constructive,
positive, and demonstrates critical analysis.
