W5A1 Ch 14 Family Formation and Parenting LGBT Context, and Ch 15 Towards Better Outcomes
There are two parts to your assignment this week:
Part 1 – In this portion of your assignment, a) choose 3 key changes that have occurred in law related to LGBT issues that you see as impactful. b) What research findings comment on these 3 issues? C) What do you see as the impact on parenting outcomes for children?
Our text explains that, “Major legal strides have been made in terms of relationship recognition, marriage, adoption, and parental rights. As far as parenting is concerned, the outcomes of parent–child relationships are determined by the quality of the parenting and the family relationships, which have a stronger influence than the sexual orientation of the parents.”
It is your choice which topics you address, but you see that you are being asked to trace that choice through law, through research, and through application in parenting, and its impact, regardless of the parents’ or children’s sexual orientation. Be certain to gather important content from the text which supports your choice, and your thoughts/opinions on it. Your understanding of the topics this week, will be evident not only in your ability to summarize meaning, but to apply that understanding in the questions you ask, choices you make, and thoughts and observations you share.
Part 2 – In this portion of your assignment you will write about creating optimal environments, and increasing resilience in children. Specifically, explain the Risk and Resilience model and how it could impact good parenting. Specifically, look at factors that contribute to effective parenting and family resilience.
