Paper Length The paper should be three to five pages in length.
APA style should be used. Go to “Getting Started” module to access “APA Resources”. The paper does need APA citations and references page but will not need a cover page or abstract. Use one inch margins and double spacing in the paper format.
Create an outline and cover each domain- Physical, Cognitive, & Socio-emotive Development.
The paper should, summarize, describe, and review important aspects of physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development for the age stage(s) represented in the unit. You should do this with a combination of developmental theories, concepts, principles, research, and/or milestones. After you have clearly described the developmental research apply a specific examples from the film to theory/research. Often organizing your papers by domains can help address each element and create a good flow. In each domain be sure you include both of the following categories.
Identify theories of development related to the age stage(s).Review the overview of theories in your textbook (Module 2) to get started. Using module 2 and theories identified within the modules describe and apply them to the film. For example, you may select Piaget’s theory of cognitive development and include it in the cognitive development portion of your paper. Briefly describe his theory, the stage which represents the unit (e.g. infancy-sensorimotor stage). After explaining the theory provide an example from the movie showing how it applies. A good rule to follow is to find two to three theories per paper to describe and apply examples of how they were displayed in the movie. You should also find other theories within the chapters in the unit as well. For example, during the childhood stage you might select Gardener’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences (Module 6).
Concepts, principles, research, and/or milestones- Select at facts/statistics, describe a concept, identify a milestone, and/or paraphrase research in each physical, cognitive, socio-emotional domains. Describe the fact, concept, milestone, or research and then provide an example from the film that demonstrates or contradicts the information. Be sure you address all three domains; physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. A good rule to follow is to find 2-3 facts/theories per domain. Here is an example of a research in socio-emotive development: Research has found parents pay a significant role in a child’s development of emotional regulation and parental sensitivity is a significant predictor of secure attachment in children (Santrock, 2020). In the movie, Joe and his mother appear to have a secure attachment. His mother was highly attentive to his needs. In one scene Joe cries because his toy car broke. He was upset so his mother consoled him and communicated with him clearly as to what ideas they could come up with to make it better.
