a) Spelling: You must use proper spelling.
b) Grammar: You must use grammatically proper, complete English sentences in completing your case studies.
c) Completeness in writing answers to each of the four steps of the case studies: For example, in Step I (A), you need to identify all the relevant statements of facts for the case study. This means that you need to provide enough information so that a person who had to depend only on your statements of facts could fully understand the case study and could discuss the case intelligently. In the Content section of the course Webpage there is a detailed template for completing the case studies that has the specifics of what you will need to include for a complete answer for each of the four steps.
d) Correct application of the relevant concepts: For example, Step III, Parts (H) – (J) requires that you make use of the technical Kantian concept of disrespect in analyzing the case. In the Content section of the course Webpage there is a handout that explains the relevant Kantian concepts and how to apply them to the case studies.
e) Use of the Proper Template: When completing your case studies, you must use the template in the Content section of the course Webpage. Each Step, and each Part of Each Step must be stated clearly, and the formatting of the case study must follow the template. You must use 1” margins and 12-point font, with the font type of New Times Roman or Verdana.
1.Read the syllabus so that you will know the due dates for the two required case studies — the first required case study is due Sunday, July 14, at 11:59 p.m. (Minneapolis/Saint Paul time), the second required case study is due Friday, August 16, at 11:59 p.m. (Minneapolis/Saint Paul time).
2. Read the two cases. This will give you a sense of the issues about which you will be writing. You MUST write your case study analyses about the two cases provided.
3. Look at the template for writing the case studies. You must follow that template in writing your case study (that includes using the table format). When writing the case study, do not include the instructions for each of the four Steps in your analysis, just include your answers using the template (Section 3 in the handout “CASE STUDY CHECKLIST AND TEMPLATE”).
4. Review all the instructions for writing the case studies. These are intended to provide you guidance in crafting your answers.
5. Read the handout entitled “The Kantian Analyses in the Case Studies”. Typically, students have the greatest difficulty in understanding and then applying the relevant Kantian concepts to the case studies. This handout is intended to explain the concepts, provide examples of how to apply the concepts, and suggest language that you can incorporate in your case studies.
7. If there is something that you do not understand, or about which you are confused or uncertain, ask questions. Send me an e-mail, or post your questions on the Discussion Board forum devoted to questions about the case studies. It is a good strategy to be as clear as possible about what is expected before you begin writing your case study.
8. Re-read the case for which you are writing the case study. Make certain you know what the case is about, the events in the case, etc.
9. Write your case study.
10. After you have written your case study, go back and check that you have answered fully all the parts of the four Steps that make up the case study, that you have used proper spelling and grammar, and that you have applied all the relevant concepts (e.g., the technical, Kantian concept of disrespect) properly.
11. When you are satisfied with your case study, submit it using the course webpage dropbox. Send the file as a .doc or .docx document, do NOT send it as a .pdf or .pages file.
