Chapter 20, we saw artists that are connected to themes such as
globalism, LGBTQA+, BIPOC, political, ethical or environmental concerns.
Students may use the links below, our book, ART 21 (Links to an external site.), or other museums in their search for artists and artworks. Please read Chapter 20 and watch the Current Concerns lecture (Links to an external site.) before proceeding to the directions below.

Directions:
Below, there is a list of websites and museums that have organized the
artists and artworks by theme or culture. For this assignment, find two
artists or cultures that may or may not be from your own culture or
relevant to your personal identity, but you are interested in
researching more.
Be sure to do the following during the assignment:
Identify
the culture or theme that you are researching. Describe the reasons you
wish to research more and why learning about another culture or
lifestyle may be important for you to research (are you wanting to make
connections, curiosity, etc.). Use 5-10 sentences (5 points).
Find
TWO artists that can be used for your culture or theme. Identify these
artists and describe their artwork (content and context) and why their
work is important within their community, culture, or personal identity.
Use 5-10 sentences per artist (35 points).
Compare
and contrast the difference between the artist and culture’s values,
history, beliefs, or politics, with your own beliefs, experiences, or
identity. Use 5-10 sentences (5 points).
After
reviewing the artists and their artwork, do you find connections with
their concerns about values, community, personal identity that are
relevant to your own? Use 5-10 sentences (5 points).
